Ben Kingsley has joined the voice cast that includes Oscar Isaac as Jesus Christ.
Pierce Brosnan, Mark Hamill, and Ben Kingsley will voice the enemies of Jesus Christ in an animated movie based on a story by Charles Dickens.
In the movie, Brosnan will voice Pontius Pilate, who ordered Jesus’ crucifixion. Hamill will play King Herod, who ordered the killing of all baby boys after Jesus was born. Kingsley will voice High Priest Caiaphas, who led Jesus’ trial.
The movie, called The King of Kings, is almost finished and is looking for a distributor. The team hopes to release it around Easter 2025.
The film follows Dickens, his youngest son Walter, and their cat Willa as they get caught up in the story of Jesus, meeting both his friends and enemies. Kenneth Branagh voices Dickens, Roman Griffin Davis voices Walter, and Uma Thurman voices Dickens’ wife, Catherine.
Other voice actors include Oscar Isaac as Jesus Christ and Forest Whitaker as the apostle Peter.
Seong-ho “Jay” Jang directs The King of Kings, with a script he co-wrote with Rob Edwards. Anfernee Kim is the producer, and Jamie Thomason and Andrew Mann are executive producers.
Kim praised the performances of Kingsley, Brosnan, and Hamill, saying their work raises the villains to biblical levels. The movie features a cast full of award-winning actors who have all delivered their best for this important story.
Brosnan’s recent projects include The Out-Laws and The Great Lillian Hall. He is also filming a spy thriller called Black Bag. Hamill recently voiced a role in the Oscar-winning The Boy and the Heron and will appear in a Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck. Kingsley, who won an Oscar for Gandhi, was in last year’s short film The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and will co-star in the new Disney+ series Wonder Man.
