Blumhouse and Lionsgate made a deal. They will make new versions of old scary movies.
One of the movies they’re making is a new Blair Witch Project. It’s part of a bigger deal where Blumhouse will redo other horror movies from Lionsgate. They’ve worked together before on a movie called Imaginary, which made $38.2 million last month.
The Blair Witch Project from 1999 was a big success. It cost only $35,000 to make but made $249 million worldwide. It started a trend of movies shot like real found footage. There were sequels in 2001 and 2016. Roy Lee, who produced the 2016 movie, is back for the new one.
Adam Fogelson from Lionsgate and Jason Blum announced the news. Fogelson said he’s worked with Blum before and trusts his team for horror movies. Blum said Blair Witch paved the way for his own hit, Paranormal Activity. He’s excited about the chance to redo it.
