In a radio interview, actor Martin Lawrence responded to social media rumors about his health.
Martin Lawrence has dismissed worries about his health after a viral video from the Bad Boys: Ride or Die premiere in Los Angeles caused speculation online.
In the viral video, Lawrence and his Bad Boys 4 co-star Will Smith are seen addressing the crowd on top of a bus. Smith seems to help a somewhat unsteady Lawrence get a better view of the crowd. Fans on social media thought Lawrence looked less energetic than Smith.
Lawrence and Smith appeared on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning show, where host Ebro Darden asked them directly about the internet rumors about Lawrence’s health.
“Martin, everyone is talking about you on the balcony waving at people and looking around. People thought something was wrong with your health,” Darden said.
Lawrence joked that he was just surprised by the large crowd, saying, “I thought it was like a rock concert. I was thinking, ‘What is going on? Is this really for a movie?’”
Darden then asked more clearly if Lawrence wanted to say anything to people worried about his health.
Lawrence replied, “I’m fine. I’m in God’s hands. I’m blessed and happy to wake up every day. There’s no need for anyone to worry.”
At the end of the interview, Lawrence addressed the rumors directly, saying, “I’m healthy as ever. Stop the rumors!”
Lawrence, who is 59, has had health issues in the past. In May 1996, he was briefly hospitalized after an incident where he ran into traffic, yelling and cursing. A doctor said he was suffering from extreme exhaustion and dehydration.
In 1999, Lawrence had another health scare and fell into a three-day coma after collapsing from severe heat exhaustion while exercising.
