Hugh Jackman Joined ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Before Telling His Agent: “Literally Couldn’t Wait”

The actor is returning as Wolverine in the new movie with Ryan Reynolds.

When Hugh Jackman decides to be Wolverine again in the third Deadpool movie, it happens so quickly that he forgets to tell his agent first.

Jackman recently spoke with Fandango and his co-star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy about why he chose to return to the superhero role after Wolverine died in the 2017 movie Logan.

“I was driving when I suddenly felt a strong urge to do this movie with Ryan,” Jackman said. “For Deadpool and Wolverine to be together again. I thought I was done with Wolverine, but I imagined our characters together ever since I saw Deadpool 1. I knew fans wanted it too. So, it felt right.”

The Greatest Showman star continued, “I couldn’t wait to call Ryan. I hadn’t even told my agent. I just said to Ryan, ‘Let’s do it.’ Then I had to tell my agent, ‘By the way, I’ve agreed to a new movie.’ Sometimes in life, when something feels clear, you just have to go for it.”

However, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige was nervous about Jackman returning as Wolverine. He told Empire magazine that he advised Jackman not to come back, saying, “You had the greatest ending in Logan. We shouldn’t undo that.”

They eventually convinced Feige it would be worth it, especially since Jackman would play a different version of Wolverine than in the X-Men movies.

Jackman told Empire that this new Disney film is especially exciting because it lets him show “different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before.”

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to be released on July 26.
