Excerpts from the interview:

1- Your new movie, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, is getting a lot of love from the audience. In the film, your character Aadhya plays a crucial role, especially in the second half. Can we expect to learn more about her backstory in the next installment?
Shruti Haasan:
Well, that’s a question for Prashanth Neel, the director. From my perspective, being part of Salaar was exciting. I knew Aadhya’s character was essential to the storyline, questioning and interacting like a narrator. The success of the film is fantastic for everyone involved, from actors to technicians.

2- Working on Salaar seems like it was a great experience. The grand sets and world creation by Prashanth Neel must have been overwhelming. How was your experience on set?
Shruti Haasan:
Absolutely, the scale of Salaar was impressive. Walking on those sets, and seeing the world come alive, thanks to the efforts of the DOP, art department, and the entire team, was a unique experience. I’ve always valued the behind-the-scenes work, having started as my mom’s costume assistant. Working on Salaar was a reminder of the magic that happens off-camera.

3- Will we see you in action roles alongside Prabhas and Prithviraj in Salaar Part 2?
Shruti Haasan:
As of now, there haven’t been discussions about me doing action roles in Salaar Part 2. I love action, and I’ve enjoyed it in projects like Treadstone and Krack. My dream is to take on full-fledged action roles, and I’m a big fan of intense, close-combat fights.

4- Your upcoming film, Chennai Story, is an adaptation of The Arrangements of Love. Some have compared it to Dev Patel’s Lion, but you mention it’s different. What attracted you to the role?
Shruti Haasan:
Chennai Story is a sweet and lovely film, different from Lion. I was drawn to the warmth in the story and the contemporary character I get to portray. After a long time, I’m doing something with simplicity and beauty, and the fact that it showcases Chennai, my hometown, makes it even more exciting.

5- What prompted you to take up the role in Chennai Story?
Shruti Haasan:
The film exudes warmth, and the character feels relatable and contemporary compared to my other projects. It was a refreshing change, and the overall feel of the movie was something I found exciting.

6- You’ve worked in multiple film industries. Does your approach change when you move from one industry to another?
Shruti Haasan:
The language may change, but the storytelling is universal. It’s the people and their approach to work that differ. Whether it’s Hollywood or Bollywood, everyone wants to tell stories, and I find that fascinating.

7- Your recent roles, like Aadhya in Salaar or Agent Tina in Vikram, showcase strong female characters. How do you feel about the evolving trend of more female-driven characters in the industry?
Shruti Haasan:
I believe Indian women have always been integral to storytelling. The shift now is portraying them beyond traditional roles and stereotypes. It’s about showcasing diverse, strong, and realistic female characters in different narratives.

8- Your upcoming film, Dacoit, looks intense. Can you share anything about your character in the film?
Shruti Haasan:
Dacoit has been a challenging and intense creative collaboration. It’s emotionally demanding, and I’ve put a lot of thought into my character. The experience has been like making a song, and I believe people will enjoy it.

9- Any new music coming up?
Shruti Haasan:
After Monster Machine, I have more singles coming out in English. Additionally, I’m excited about collaborating with my father on a project this summer. My love for music comes from my parents, and working with my dad on music is something special. People can expect something surprising from us.
