Barbara O. Jones, ‘Daughters of the Dust’ Actress, Dies at 82

Barbara O. Jones was a talented actress who was part of a group of Black filmmakers in the 1970s called the L.A. Rebellion. She starred in several notable films like ‘Child of Resistance,’ ‘Diary of an African Nun,’ ‘Bush Mama,’ and ‘Freedom Road’ alongside Muhammad Ali.

Barbara, also known as Barbarao, Barbara-O, and BarbaraO, passed away at the age of 82 in her home in Dayton, Ohio. She acted in various movies and TV shows throughout her career, showcasing her talent and versatility.

She was born as Barbara Olivia Minor in Dayton, Ohio, and attended Roosevelt High School. Before pursuing acting, she worked as a radio personality under the name Bobbie Montgomery.

Barbara’s standout roles include playing a woman fighting for justice in ‘Child of Resistance,’ a nun questioning her faith in ‘Diary of an African Nun,’ and a grandmother in ‘Daughters of the Dust.’

Her career spanned across various genres, from drama to science fiction, and she appeared in both movies and television shows like ‘Black Chariot,’ ‘Demon Seed,’ and ‘Maangamizi: The Ancient One.’

Barbara leaves behind a legacy of remarkable performances and is survived by her children, Gina and William, as well as her brothers Raymond and Marlon.
