About Transformers One
Transformers One is a new American cartoon movie about robots. It’s based on the toys called Transformers. The movie tells the story of how two important robots, Optimus Prime and Megatron, became enemies and changed their home planet, Cybertron, forever. It’s the first Transformers cartoon movie in theaters since 1986.
In 2015, after the last Transformers movie came out, Paramount Pictures asked some people to come up with ideas for more movies. They wanted to make a big plan for the future of Transformers movies. One of the ideas was to make a cartoon movie showing what happened before all the other movies, back when the robots lived on Cybertron. They announced the movie in 2017, and in 2020, they picked a director. The title and the actors doing the voices were revealed in 2023. The animation was done by Industrial Light & Magic, and the music was composed by Brian Tyler.
Transformers One will come out in theaters in the United States on September 20, 2024.

This is the hidden beginning tale of Optimus Prime and Megatron. They’re famous as enemies, but they used to be close friends, like brothers. Together, they altered the destiny of Cybertron forever.

Production of Transformers One
Development
After the movie Transformers: Age of Extinction came out in 2014, Paramount Pictures asked Akiva Goldsman to help plan future Transformers movies. Goldsman, along with director Michael Bay, producer Steven Spielberg, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, formed a team called a “writers’ room.” They gathered writers to come up with ideas for new Transformers movies and spin-offs.
The team looked at different Transformers stories made by Hasbro for ideas. If they liked a story, they could write a basic plan for it, and then the whole team would develop it further. In May, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari joined the team.
In August 2017, news came out that they were making an animated Transformers movie. After Bumblebee was released in 2018, di Bonaventura talked about the animated movie, saying it was in progress and would tell the story of Cybertron.
In April 2020, it was announced that Josh Cooley would direct the movie, and Barrer and Ferrari would write the script. Hasbro Entertainment and Paramount Animation would produce it. In February 2022, it was revealed that the movie would be computer-animated.
In December 2022, the title was said to be Transformers: A New Generation, but later, di Bonaventura said the title wasn’t final. At CinemaCon in the same month, the title was confirmed as Transformers One. di Bonaventura said the movie would be about how the Transformers started and why Optimus and Megatron became enemies.
In May, it was revealed that Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman helped write the screenplay.
Casting
The movie’s actors were announced in April 2023 at CinemaCon. Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry will play young Optimus Prime and Megatron. Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Jon Hamm, and Laurence Fishburne will also star.
In April 2024, Steve Buscemi, who voiced Daytrader in The Last Knight, was cast as the bad guy.
This movie, Transformers One, is Hemsworth’s first animated film. He liked the script and wanted to be a part of it. He worked hard to sound different from his usual self for Optimus Prime. Hemsworth talked with Peter Cullen to get his voice right.
The director asked Keegan-Michael Key to keep his regular voice for Bumblebee.
Animation
The people who made the cool effects for the first six Transformers movies are back to make the animation for this one too. They finished working on the movie by February 2024.
Music
In May 2024, they said Brian Tyler will make music for Transformers One. He made music for Transformers: Prime before.
Release
Transformers One will be shown as a work that’s still being finished at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2024. It will come out in theaters in the United States on September 20, 2024. It was supposed to come out on July 19, 2024, but got moved to September 13 at first. Then, it was moved again, a week later, to avoid competing with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
