About Thelma the Unicorn
Thelma the Unicorn is a new funny movie for kids. It’s a cartoon with songs and jokes. The story is based on a book series by Aaron Blabey. The movie is made by Jared and Jerusha Hess, who wrote the story, and Jared Hess and Lynn Wang, who directed it. The voices in the movie are by Brittany Howard, Will Forte, Jemaine Clement, Edi Patterson, Fred Armisen, Zach Galifianakis, Jon Heder, and Shondrella Avery. This movie is Brittany Howard’s first time acting in a movie.

Synopsis
Once upon a time, there was a pony named Thelma who really wanted to be a singer. She had a big dream! To make her dream come true, she decided to pretend to be a unicorn. This trick helped her become famous and get lots of attention.

Production
In June 2019, Netflix said they got the rights to make a movie from Aaron Blabey’s book Thelma the Unicorn. They wanted to turn it into a musical cartoon. Jared Hess and Lynn Wang would direct it. Aaron Blabey and Patrick Hughes would help make it too.
In April 2023, Pam Coats joined to help make the movie.
In January 2024, they said Brittany Howard, Will Forte, Jemaine Clement, Edi Patterson, Fred Armisen, Zach Galifianakis, Jon Heder, Maliaka Mitchell, and Ally Dixon will act in the movie. This is the second time Jon Heder and Jared Hess work together since Napoleon Dynamite.
In December 2023, they said John Powell will make the music for the movie, starting that same month.
Release
It will come out on Netflix on May 17, 2024.
