The Strangers: Chapter 1 is a scary movie from America. It’s about a couple who meet three crazy people wearing masks while they’re on a trip. The movie is directed by Renny Harlin and written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freeland. It’s based on a story by Bryan Bertino.
This movie is part of The Strangers series made by Bryan Bertino. Even though it’s the third movie, it’s actually the first part of a new set of movies. It’s like a story that happened before the first movie.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 will come out on May 17, 2024, by Lionsgate Films. There will be more parts coming out later in the same year.
Premise of The Strangers: Chapter 1
Maya and her boyfriend, Ryan, are moving to a new place in the Pacific Northwest. While driving there, their car stops working in a town called Venus, Oregon. They have to stay the night in a house they rented through Airbnb. During the night, three scary people wearing masks scare and threaten Maya and Ryan.

Production
Development
In August 2022, a man named Roy Lee said he wanted to make three movies. They would start being made in September of that year, one after the other. Renny Harlin was chosen to direct at least one of them. He was still talking about directing all three.
These movies were a collaboration between Lionsgate Films, Fifth Element Productions, and Frame Film. They will be shown in theaters by Lionsgate.
Later that year, Harlin was confirmed to direct all three films. The first one would have a script by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, with a story by Bryan Bertino. Some people named Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Christopher Milburn, Gary Raskin, Charlie Dombeck, and Alastair Birlingham were named as producers for the movies.
This set of three movies is restarting the series. Mark Canton said they wanted to introduce new people to “The Strangers” world. Solomon said they aimed to tell a bigger story this time. They wanted to show more about the world of “The Strangers.”
These movies are about studying characters. This is different from the first two films. Later, it was said by the people making the movies that they are set in the same world as the first two films.
Casting and filming
In September 2022, Madelaine Petsch, Froy Gutierrez, and Gabriel Basso were chosen for roles in the movies. Then, in October 2022, Ema Horvath was also announced to join them. The next month, Rachel Shenton joined the team too.
Filming for all three movies began in September 2022 in Bratislava, Slovakia, and finished in November 2022. The director, Harlin, said to Entertainment Weekly that it was very challenging but exciting. Sometimes they’d film parts of different movies all in one day, which was tough for the actors and for keeping everything consistent with makeup and costumes. They aimed for the movies to look more grand and impressive as they progressed.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 will come out in theaters on May 17, 2024.
