About The Garfield Movie
The Garfield Movie is a new funny cartoon adventure movie from America. It’s based on the Garfield comic strips by Jim Davis. Columbia Pictures and Alcon Entertainment are making it together, and it’s the first time Alcon is making a cartoon movie. DNEG Animation, do the animation and Sony Pictures Releasing will put it in theatres. Mark Dindal is the director, and David Reynolds wrote the screenplay with Paul A. Kaplan and Mark Torgove. Chris Pratt voices Garfield, and other actors like Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, and Snoop Dogg give their voices to characters.
They started planning this movie in May 2016, and Mark Dindal was chosen to direct it in November 2018. They began working on it officially the next month. Even though Viacom got most of the Garfield rights in August 2019, they didn’t help with making this movie. Sony got the rights to put it in theatres in November 2021, and Chris Pratt was picked to voice Garfield. The rest of the cast joined in 2022. John Debney made the music for the movie.
The Garfield Movie will appear in theatres in the United States on May 24, 2024.
Premise of The Garfield Movie
Garfield, a famous indoor cat who doesn’t like Mondays but loves lasagna, is going on a big adventure! He meets his father, Vic, a rough street cat, and together with his dog friend Odie, they join Vic in a funny and risky robbery.

Production
Development
In May 2016, it was said that a new Garfield movie would be made. It would be computer-animated. Alcon Entertainment would make it. John Cohen and Steven P. Wegner would produce it. Mark Torgove and Paul A. Kaplan would write the script.
In November 2018, Mark Dindal was chosen to direct the movie. They started planning it in December of the same year. In August 2019, Viacom, now called Paramount Global, got most of the rights to Garfield. People were not sure if the movie would still happen. But in December 2020, Dindal said they were still working on it.
In November 2021, David Reynolds was picked to write the movie. He had worked with Dindal before on Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove. Sony Pictures would release the movie, except in China. DNEG Animation would make the animation. By September 2023, the movie was named The Garfield Movie.
Casting
In November 2021, they said Chris Pratt would act as Garfield. In May 2022, they told Samuel L. Jackson would be Garfield’s dad, Vic. Then, in August 2022, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Hannah Waddingham, and Cecily Strong joined the movie. Later, in November 2022, Brett Goldstein and Bowen Yang also joined. In November 2023, they confirmed Harvey Guillén would voice Odie, and in December 2023, they confirmed Nicholas Hoult would voice Jon Arbuckle. Then, in March 2024, they showed a new trailer revealing Snoop Dogg and Janelle James will also be in the movie.
Music
In November 2023, they said John Debney would make the music for the movie. This is his third time working with Dindal after The Emperor’s New Groove and Chicken Little (2005). Snoop Dogg and Keith Urban worked together on a song called “Let It Roll” for the movie. They released it as a single on April 12, 2024.
Release
The Garfield Movie will come out in theaters in the United States on May 24, 2024. Before, it was supposed to come out on February 16, 2024.
In April 2021, Sony made deals with Netflix and Disney for their movies from 2022 to 2026. After the movies are in theaters and on home media, they’ll be available on these streaming platforms. Netflix will show the movies first for about 18 months, including The Garfield Movie. Then Disney will have the movies on Disney+ and Hulu, and they’ll also be on Disney’s TV channels.
