Premise
The movie is making fun of a common idea called the Magical Negro. The main character, Aren, joins a group of magical African Americans. They have a mission to make White people’s lives better.

Production
Kobi Libii created the American Society of Magical Negroes for Sundance’s Screenwriters and Directors Lab. On March 10, 2021, SFFILM announced that the film won the 2021 Dolby Institute Fellowships. This means they got support from the industry and a cash grant to collaborate with a sound designer during the screenwriting phase. On November 15, 2023, a short teaser trailer was shared on TikTok and X. The full official trailer was released on December 15, 2023.
