A new action movie called “Road House” is coming soon. It’s directed by Doug Liman and written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. The movie is a redo of a film from 1989 with the same name. The cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior, Conor McGregor, and Billy Magnussen. Joel Silver, who worked on the original movie, is producing this one too.

Premise
A former UFC middleweight fighter now works at a roadside restaurant in the Florida Keys. But things there are not what they appear to be.

Production
Development
In November 2013, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures started working on a movie. Rob Cohen was going to direct it, and Michael Stokes was going to write it. But in September 2015, Cohen and Stokes left the project. Ronda Rousey was then chosen for the leading role. They planned to start filming the following year. However, Nick Cassavetes became the writer and director the next month.
The project was stopped until November 2021. MGM decided to try again, with Jake Gyllenhaal as the star and Doug Liman as the director. Even though Gyllenhaal and Liman were busy with other projects, the studio wanted to make this movie. They needed a new writer to improve the script Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry wrote. By August 2022, Sheldon Turner had rewritten the script.
In the end, Bagarozzi and Mondry got the final screenplay credit. The story credit went to them and David Lee Henry, who wrote the original story.
Casting
Amazon Studios gave the thumbs-up to the project in August 2022. They bought MGM five months before that. The cast includes Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Conor McGregor, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp, Bob Menery, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Joaquim de Almeida, Darren Barnet, Kevin Carroll, and J.D. Pardo joined the cast later in the same month. In June 2023, Jessica Williams shared that she also has a role in the film.
Filming
They started making a movie in the Dominican Republic on August 23, 2022. On March 3, 2023, Jake Gyllenhaal filmed a scene with a former UFC fighter, Jay Hieron, after the weigh-ins for UFC 285 in Las Vegas. They did the scene in front of fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and important UFC people like Dana White and Jon Anik were there, too. They also filmed a part where Gyllenhaal walked out during a break in the event.
Music
Volker Bertelmann was going to make the music for the movie.
Release
The movie “Road House” will appear in the United States on March 21, 2024. You can watch it on Prime Video by Amazon MGM Studios.
