Plot
Ricky Stanicky is a pretend person made up of three close friends. They made him up to have someone to blame when they did something wrong for the last 20 years. Now, their partners want to meet this made-up person. So, the friends hire an actor who isn’t famous anymore to act like Ricky Stanicky and pretend he’s real.

Production
Development
On May 20, 2010, it was said that James Franco might play the central part in a movie called Ricky Stanicky. David Occhino wrote the script, and Jason Decker, Jeffrey Bushell, and Summit Entertainment were talking about paying for the movie. Michael De Luca and John Jacobs were supposed to produce it. Bushell’s script was on the 2010 Black List of Best Unproduced Screenplays. In 2012, Joaquin Phoenix briefly considered taking the role after Franco decided not to do it.
Then, on April 9, 2013, it was reported that after thinking about it for a year, Jim Carrey would be the star of Ricky Stanicky for Summit Entertainment. Steve Oedekerk would direct, and he and Bushell would rewrite the screenplay. De Luca and Jacobs were still going to produce the movie.
Pre-production
On September 9, 2022, they said that Peter Farrelly would be the director of “Ricky Stanicky” in early 2023. They were talking to Zac Efron and John Cena to be in the movie. The people who wrote the story are Farrelly, Brian Jarvis, and James L. Freeman. It is based on a script by Bushell and Oedekerk.
Then, on February 1, 2023, it was told that Amazon got the rights to the movie worldwide. The main actors in the film are Zac Efron, John Cena, and Jermaine Fowler. On February 7, 2023, they said that William H. Macy, Anja Savcic, Andrew Santino, and Lex Scott Davis also joined the group of actors. Paul Currie makes the movies from Footloose Productions, Thorsten Schumacher from Rocket Science, and John Jacobs from Smart Entertainment.
Filming
They made a movie in Melbourne, Australia, in February and March 2023. Melbourne acted like Providence, Rhode Island, in the film. Australia’s Location Incentive and Victorian Screen Incentive programs helped with the money for the movie.
Release
The movie will come out on March 7, 2024, on Amazon Prime Video.
