About Rebel Moon
Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, or just Rebel Moon, is a big space movie from the year 2023. Zack Snyder directed it, and he also helped write the story with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten. The main actors are Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, and Anthony Hopkins. The story happens in a made-up galaxy ruled by a big and bossy group called Motherworld. They have an army called the Imperium, and they’re causing trouble for a group of farmers on the moon of Veldt. Kora, who used to be part of the Imperium, goes on a journey to find fighters from all over the galaxy. They want to stand up against the Imperium before they come back to Veldt.
The movie first came out in a few theaters on December 15, 2023, and then it was on Netflix on December 22. Critics didn’t really like it. There’s going to be a longer and more mature version called the R-rated extended cut coming out in the middle of 2024. And there’s also a sequel called Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, planned for April 19, 2024.
Plot of Rebel Moon
Atticus Noble is a mean leader from a big empire called the Imperium. He comes to a small place called Veldt to find some rebels led by Devra and Darrian Bloodaxe. He wants to buy extra grain from the village, but the leader, Sindri, says they don’t have enough to share. A farmer, Gunnar, says they actually have some extra. Noble gets mad, kills Sindri, and tells Gunnar to get the grain ready in ten weeks.
Noble leaves some soldiers and a robot named Jimmy to watch over the village. Jimmy starts acting on its own after being bothered by another robot. Kora, one of the villagers, finds the soldiers doing something really bad and kills them with help from Jimmy. She warns the village that Noble will attack when he returns.
Kora and Gunnar go to a town called Providence to get help for the village. They meet Titus, a former Imperium general, and other warriors along the way. Kora tells her story about serving the Imperium. They also recruit rebels, including Devra and Darrian, to defend the village.
On their journey, they meet a smuggler named Kai who helps them. But later, Kai betrays them to Noble. A big fight happens, and some people die, including Darrian and Noble. The surviving warriors go back to Veldt, and Noble is brought back to life by his boss, Balisarius, who wants to stop the rebellion and kill Kora.
That’s the story of how a small village stood up against a big, mean empire.

Production of Rebel Moon
Development of Rebel Moon
Rebel Moon is a movie idea that Zack Snyder thought of when he was in college. He got inspiration from Akira Kurosawa, Star Wars, and Heavy Metal magazines. The logo of the movie is a tribute to Heavy Metal.
Zack Snyder first talked about the idea with someone named Johnstad in 1997. Later, he tried to make it a Star Wars movie with Lucasfilm in 2012. He also tried to turn it into both a video game and a movie with Warner Bros. Pictures a few times.
Zack and a producer named Eric Newman originally planned to make Rebel Moon into a TV series. But later, they decided to turn it into a movie and talked to Netflix about it.
However, Netflix was worried that the movie might not do well because it was too long. So, Zack Snyder decided to split the movie into two parts to keep all the characters and make it better.
Casting of Rebel Moon
In November 2021, they told everyone that Sofia Boutella would be the main actor in the movie. Then, in February 2022, they said that Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, Doona Bae, Stuart Martin, and Rupert Friend would also be part of the movie.
Ray Fisher heard about the project in 2019 or 2020 when Zack Snyder planned it to be a TV show. He got interested and joined when Snyder explained it was about a “little space thing.” In April 2022, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, and Alfonso Herrera joined the team.
On May 16, 2022, they said Ed Skrein would be the main bad guy instead of Rupert Friend because of a schedule problem. Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, and Rhian Rees also joined in May. Then, on June 8, 2022, they told us that Anthony Hopkins would be the voice of Jimmy, a smart robot in the movie.
Filming of Rebel Moon
They started making the movie on April 19, 2022. Snyder, the person in charge, shared pictures from the set on Twitter that day. He also took on the role of cinematographer. The filming continued until December 2, and they spent 152 days shooting in California. This was done to get $83 million in spending benefits and tax incentives.
Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, and Ray Porter were the actors. They acted out and recorded the script for Snyder to listen to before shooting each day. In the movie, they play the characters Den, The King, The Queen, and Hickman.
Post-production
On August 20, 2023, they told us the names of the two parts: A Child of Fire and The Scargiver. Two days after that, Zack Snyder showed up at gamescom opening night and showed a sneak peek of the movies with those titles.
Music of Rebel Moon
Tom Holkenborg created the music for this movie. He also made music for other movies like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Army of the Dead, and 300: Rise of an Empire. He worked with Hans Zimmer on some of these films.
Release of Rebel Moon
Rebel Moon first showed in a few big cities on December 15, 2023, like Los Angeles, New York City, Toronto, and London. It was only in some theaters and then later, on December 22, it came out on Netflix. The director, Snyder, shared that there will be a longer R-rated version coming out before The Scargiver, along with the original PG-13 version.
