About Mother, Couch
Mother, Couch is a movie that came out in 2023. Niclas Larsson wrote and directed it. The story is based on a Swedish book called Mamma i soffa by Jerker Virdborg, which was published in 2020. The movie features actors like Ewan McGregor, Rhys Ifans, Taylor Russell, Ellen Burstyn, Lara Flynn Boyle, F. Murray Abraham, and Lake Bell. It first showed at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2023. It will come out in the United States on July 5, 2024, through Film Movement and Memory.

Production
In July 2022, it was announced that Ellen Burstyn, Ewan McGregor, Taylor Russell, Rhys Ifans, Lara Flynn Boyle, Lake Bell, and F. Murray Abraham will star in a new movie called “Mother, Couch.” The movie is based on a Swedish novel called “Mamma i soffa” by Jerker Virdborg, which was written in 2020.
Niclas Larsson wrote and directed the movie, which is his first feature film. Larsson mentioned in an interview that the film differs quite a bit from the book. He got permission from the author to make changes and set the story in America while keeping a Swedish feel.
The movie was made by American companies Lyrical Media, Fat City, and Suris/Bishop Films, along with support from Sweden’s Film i Väst and Denmark’s Snowglobe. Filming started in late October 2022 in Charlotte, North Carolina. They shot most scenes on a stage over 27 days. The production got a tax rebate of up to $1.75 million from the North Carolina Department of Commerce.
Release
The movie “Mother, Couch” first showed to the world at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2023. After that, it was also shown at the San Sebastián International Film Festival on September 26. In February 2024, Film Movement and Memory got the rights to share the movie in the United States. The movie will come out in the United States on July 5, 2024.
