About Legend of the White Dragon
“Legend of the White Dragon” is a new American science-fiction superhero movie. It is directed by Aaron Schoenke and was funded by fans on Kickstarter. The movie is set to come out in early 2024.
The film brings together actors from the Power Rangers series, including Jason David Frank (in his last role before he passed away), Jason Faunt, Cerina Vincent, and Ciara Hanna. Other stars in the movie are Aaron Schoenke, Mayling Ng, David Ramsey, Andrew Bachelor, Mark Dacascos, and Michael Madsen.
In the story, Erik Reed (played by Frank) returns to his city three years after a big fight to protect his wife and daughter from a new danger. The movie is described as a grown-up version of the Power Rangers and introduces a new world.

After three years of hiding because he was on the run, former superhero Erik Reed returns to the city he promised to protect. He wants to prove he is innocent and reunite with his secret family.
But there is one problem: the mysterious Dragon Prime, who is determined to get revenge on the White Dragon.

- Mayling Ng as Tek Boh: A tough Virtuo police officer hunting Erik Reed.
- Kevin Porter as Brian ‘Lighthouse’ Clayton: A grizzled detective, partnered with Tek Boh to hunt Erik Reed.
- Chalet Lizette Brannan as Jade: A fellow monk alongside Xang.
Additionally, Ciara Hanna plays Vanessa, a character who was said to be significant to a certain character’s story. Lenore Zann will also appear in an unspecified role.
Background of Legend of the White Dragon
Bat in The Sun is a small movie studio in Los Angeles, California. It was started by Aaron Schoenke and his dad, Sean Schoenke. The studio became famous in 2010 for their Batman fan movie, City of Scars, and their web series Super Powered Beat Down.
In 2013, Aaron Schoenke met Jason David Frank when Frank appeared on Super Powered Beat Down. Over the next few years, they talked about a new project, which later became Legend of the White Dragon.
In 2018, Bat in The Sun worked with Saban Brands to make a live-action ad for the Power Rangers: Legacy Wars mobile game, which included Street Fighter characters.
Production of Legend of the White Dragon
On July 18, 2019, a Kickstarter campaign was started to raise money for a film. They aimed to collect $500,000 and had actors Johnny Yong Bosch, Jason Faunt, and Ciara Hanna, along with Jason’s daughter Jenna Rae Frank, on board. However, the campaign ended on August 18, 2019, without reaching its goal.
A second campaign started on March 20, 2020, for a $100,000 mini-series, but they hoped to raise $500,000 for a full movie. They reached the $100,000 goal in 11 days and raised $508,578 by the end on May 27, 2020, enough for the full movie. Johnny Yong Bosch had to leave the project due to schedule issues.
Near the end of the campaign, the main cast was announced: Jason Faunt, Ciara Hanna, Jenna Frank, Rachele Brooke Smith, and Andrew Bachelor. Later, more actors joined, including Mayling Ng, Mark Dacascos, and Michael Madsen. Filming started in May 2021 in Los Angeles and lasted 42 days.
In December 2021, David Ramsey and Cerina Vincent joined the cast.
In July, the project got special permission for the cast to do extra filming during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
Release of Legend of the White Dragon
The film “Legend of the White Dragon” was supposed to come out in 2020, but it got delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In March 2023, they decided the new release date would be September 4, 2023. However, in July, it was delayed again to early 2024. The film is planned to be shown in a few theaters on September 4, 2024.
