About Janet Planet
Janet Planet is a drama movie made in America in 2023. Annie Baker wrote and directed it, marking her first time directing a full-length film. The cast includes Julianne Nicholson, Zoe Ziegler, Elias Koteas, Will Patton, and Sophie Okonedo. The movie first showed at the 50th Telluride Film Festival.
Premise
In 1991, a woman named Janet, who works as an acupuncturist and has a free-spirited lifestyle, spends the summer at her home in rural Massachusetts with her 11-year-old daughter, Lacy. Janet meets three new people: her boyfriend Wayne, her friend Regina, and Avi, who leads a local theater group. Lacy starts to feel unsure about these new people and stays close to her mom, Janet. As time goes on, Janet feels increasingly annoyed by her daughter’s need to be close to her all the time.

Release
Janet Planet had its first showing at the 50th Telluride Film Festival. After that, it was shown at the 2023 New York Film Festival. Next, it will be shown at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2024.
The movie will come out in the United States on June 21, 2024.
