About Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 is a new animated movie made by Pixar for Disney. It’s a follow-up to Inside Out from 2015. The movie is about growing up. Kelsey Mann is directing it, and it’s his first time directing a big movie. Mark Nielsen is producing it, and Meg LeFauve is writing the story. Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black are coming back to voice their characters, and Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, and Maya Hawke are new to the cast.

They told us about Inside Out 2 in September 2022 at the D23 Expo. They said Mann, Nielsen, LeFauve, and Poehler are part of it. Then, in November 2023, they told Hale, Lapira, and Hawke to join the team. The movie uses the idea of “five to 27 emotions” from the first movie. It’s something Mann talked about during the first movie’s making. They want to make a world that feels real and true.

Inside Out 2 will come out in the United States on June 14, 2024. You can watch it in theatres.

The premise of Inside Out 2

In the new Inside Out 2 movie, we go back into the mind of Riley, who is now a teenager. Her mind was changing, and the control centre was suddenly destroyed to make space for new emotions! The old Emotions—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust—are used to things going well, but now they feel unsure because Anxiety has arrived. It seems like Anxiety has brought some friends along, too.

Voice cast

  • Amy Poehler as Joy
  • Phyllis Smith as Sadness
  • Lewis Black as Anger
  • Tony Hale as Fear
  • Liza Lapira as Disgust
  • Maya Hawke as Anxiety
  • Diane Lane as Mrs. Anderson
  • Kyle MacLachlan as Mr. Anderson

In addition, June Squibb has been cast in an undisclosed role.

Production

Development

After the enormous success of the movie Inside Out in 2015, the seventh-highest-earning film that year, Entertainment Tonight and The Guardian thought a sequel was bound to happen. The director, Pete Docter, started thinking about ideas for a sequel while the first movie was getting recognized at the 88th Academy Awards in January 2016.

In September 2022, during the D23 Expo announcement, Pixar officially confirmed they were making a sequel. Amy Poehler, part of the movie, talked about it on stage with Docter. The director for the sequel is Kelsey Mann, and it’s his first time directing a full-length movie. Mark Nielsen is producing it, and Meg LeFauve is writing the screenplay, just like she did for the first movie. Mann used Docter’s idea of “five to 27 emotions” to build the world in the movie and make it feel truthful.

Casting

Poehler agreed to get $5 million plus extra money to play Joy again. But there was a problem about how much money Kaling and Hader would get to play their characters Disgust and Fear again. They disagreed on the pay, so Kaling and Hader said no to returning. The other actors were offered $100,000 each, two percent of Poehler’s pay.

Later, on November 9, 2023, they showed a teaser trailer, and it was announced that Tony Hale and Liza Lapira would take over the roles of Fear and Disgust. Also, a new character called Anxiety would be played by Maya Hawke. On January 16, 2024, they said June Squibb had joined the cast, but they didn’t say what role she would play.

Release

Inside Out 2 is scheduled to be released in theatres in the United States on June 14, 2024.
