About Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a new movie about action and adventure in a world after it ended. It was made by George Miller, who also helped write it with Nico Lathouris. This movie is part of the Mad Max series, but it’s a separate story from the one before Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. Anya Taylor-Joy plays the main character, Imperator Furiosa. Other actors in the movie include Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, and Alyla Browne.
In March 2020, George Miller looked for actors to play the leading role. In October, taylor-Joy, Hemsworth, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II were chosen for essential roles. But later, Burke replaced Abdul-Mateen because of a problem with his schedule. Many people who worked on Fury Road also worked on Furiosa, like Nico Lathouris, Margaret Sixel, Jenny Beavan, and Tom Holkenborg. They filmed the movie in Australia from June to October 2022.
Furiosa will first be shown to the world at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, 2024. Then, it will come to theaters in Australia on May 23, 2024, and in the United States the next day.
Premise of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
The world is getting worse before the story of Mad Max: Fury Road begins. A young girl named Furiosa is taken away from her home, the Green Place of Many Mothers, by a group of bikers led by a scary leader called Warlord Dementus. Meanwhile, two influential leaders are fighting for control of the Citadel. Furiosa faces many challenges as she tries to find her way home through the dangerous Wasteland.

Pre-production of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Director George Miller and his friend Nick Lathouris spent more than 15 years writing the story for the movie Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). They created stories about all the characters, mainly focusing on the main character, Imperator Furiosa. They made a screenplay about Furiosa, which Charlize Theron used to act in the movie.
In 2010, Miller said he wanted to make two movies together: Fury Road and another about Furiosa’s earlier life. But in the end, they only made Fury Road. In 2017, Miller’s company sued Warner Bros. because they hadn’t paid them, which stopped them from making more movies in the series. However, in 2019, Miller said they were still planning to make a Furiosa movie and two more Mad Max movies.
In May 2020, Miller said he would make a Furiosa movie after he finished another movie called Three Thousand Years of Longing. He wanted to find a new actress to play Furiosa, not use technology to make Charlize Theron look younger. The Furiosa movie shows what happened to Furiosa before Fury Road over 15 years ago.
Because of COVID-19, Miller used Skype to find actors for Furiosa in March 2020. He picked Anya Taylor-Joy after seeing her in another movie and auditioning her. Nicholas Hoult, who was in Fury Road, gave her advice. Tom Burke joined the cast in 2021, replacing someone else. Many people who worked on Fury Road are returning for Furiosa, like the editor, designer, composer, sound mixer, costume designer, and makeup designer.
In 2022, Simon Duggan was chosen as the cinematographer. Nathan Jones and Angus Sampson also agreed to be in the movie. In August, Quaden Bayles, who was in Three Thousand Years of Longing after a video of him being mistreated at school became famous, was announced to have a small role in Furiosa.
Filming of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
In May 2022, Deadline Hollywood talked to Miller about the movie’s filming. They said the second part of filming started in Australia before the primary filming. The movie got a big money reward of AU$175 million for filming. It spent US$233 million (AU$343.2 million) in Australia, the most any movie has ever spent.
Hemsworth said that Miller hired people who used to be in jail to act in the movie. In May 2022, filming in one place ended, and they moved to another place called Hay. They planned to film more in Silverton later. They started filming the central part of the movie on June 1, 2022, in Australia. They thought they would finish by September. They ended up finishing filming in October 2022.
Post-production of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
In March 2024, they announced that Lachy Hulme would play a younger version of Immortan Joe in the movie. He’s taking over the role from Hugh Keays-Byrne, who passed away in 2020 after playing the character in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Furiosa will first show at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, 2024. Then, it’ll appear in theaters in Australia on May 23, 2024, and in the United States on May 24, 2024. Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures are releasing it. They planned to release it on June 23, 2023 but changed the date.
