About Challengers
Challengers is a new movie that will be out soon. It’s a funny and emotional film about love and sports. Luca Guadagnino directed it, and Justin Kuritzkes wrote it. The main actors are Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist.
The story is about a tennis champion who decides to join a special tennis competition. This competition is called a challenger event. The twist is that he’ll be playing against his wife’s former lover, who is also his coach.
Challengers was supposed to come out on September 15, 2023, but it got delayed. It won’t be the opening film at the 80th Venice International Film Festival because of a strike by the actors’ union (SAG-AFTRA) in 2023. Now, the new release date is April 26, 2024, in the United States. You can watch it through Amazon MGM Studios, released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Development
In February 2022, they said that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer would make a movie. Luca Guadagnino directed it, and Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist are the main actors. Zendaya also helped make the movie. When talking about why he made the film in an interview in 2022, Guadagnino mentioned Kuritzkes’ screenplay, Amy Pascal, and Zendaya as inspirations.
Filming
Filming for the movie started on May 3, 2022, in Boston. They invited local people to audition for roles like tennis players, background actors, and stand-ins. Zendaya, one of the actors, trained for three months with Brad Gilbert, who used to be a professional tennis player and is now a coach. He also helped with the movie. They filmed in different parts of Boston, like the Back Bay and East Boston neighborhoods. Sayombhu Mukdeeprom was the person in charge of taking pictures, and Jonathan Anderson, from the luxury brand Loewe, designed the costumes. They finished filming on June 26, 2022.
Post-production
Guadagnino went to see Zendaya while she was filming Dune: Part Two. They needed to do some recording for Challengers. The music for the movie was made by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. They also worked with Guadagnino on a movie called Bones and All in 2022. The final editing for the movie was finished by April 2023.
Release
The movie “Challengers” will come out in the United States on April 26, 2024. It was supposed to be released earlier on September 15, 2023, and before that on August 11, 2023. The movie was also supposed to be shown first at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, but it didn’t happen because of a strike in 2023, so Amazon MGM Studios decided not to participate.
Warner Bros. Pictures is in charge of releasing the movie worldwide. At first, they planned to show it directly on Amazon Prime Video in France, but they changed their minds in January 2024. Now, the movie will start streaming on that service 17 months after it first comes out in theaters. There were rumors that it might be released in France on April 24, 2024, two days before the U.S. release, but a spokesperson from Warner Bros. Discovery said that the movie’s French release date hasn’t been decided yet.
