About Baby John
Baby John is a new action-packed movie from India. It’s in Hindi, a thrilling remake of a Tamil film called Theri, which came out in 2016. The movie was made by Atlee and directed by Kalees. The main star is Varun Dhawan, who plays the character Baby John. Other actors in the movie include Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, Sanya Malhotra (who appears in a special role), Rajpal Yadav, and Sheeba Chaddha.
They started talking about making the movie in March 2022, calling it VD18 because it’s Varun Dhawan’s 18th film. But they officially named it Baby John in February 2024. They began filming in August 2023 in Mumbai and Kerala. The movie’s music is by Thaman S.

Premise
Once, a police officer named Baby John pretends to die and hides to keep his daughter safe, but problems start when people from Baby John’s past who want to hurt them find out they’re still alive. Baby John has to confront his past to keep his daughter safe.

Production
Development
In late April 2020, people said that Varun Dhawan might play the main part in a new version of a movie called “Theri” from 2016. But it needed to be clarified if the original director, Atlee, would be in charge again or not. It’s said that Atlee and Varun Dhawan met in Mumbai in 2019 to talk about working together.
In March 2022, they said they were getting ready to start making the movie soon because Varun Dhawan had finished his other work. They met again to make final plans. On March 19, they announced they were working together. The movie was called “VD18” for a while. But instead of directing, Atlee decided to produce it. Kalees, who had worked with Atlee before, was chosen to direct it. The official title, “Baby John,” was announced on February 5, 2024.
Casting
Janhvi Kapoor was going to be the main actress in the movie, acting alongside Varun for the second time after a movie called Bawaal in 2023. But later, Keerthy Suresh replaced her for her first Hindi movie. Keerthy is said to be paid ₹3 crore (US$380,000) for the role, and she will play the same character Samantha did in the original movie.
Keerthy was confirmed for the role in July 2023. Wamiqa Gabbi will act as Amy Jackson’s character. Jackie Shroff will be the main villain, playing the role that Mahendran played. Sanya Malhotra will have a special appearance as a potential bride for Varun, playing the same role Sunaina did. Rajpal Yadav and Sheeba Chaddha will also have important roles in the movie.
Filming
Filming for the movie started with a special ceremony called puja. They released a video of this ceremony on January 14, 2024, the Makar Sankranti festival. The first part of filming happened on August 10, 2023, in Mumbai.
On September 7, Dhawan said he hurt his foot while filming. Because of this, they had to stop filming for a while, but they started again on September 12.
Gabbi started filming her parts on December 15, and they moved filming to somewhere near Kerala. Then, on December 23, they had to stop filming again because Dhawan got injured again.
On December 27, Dhawan said on his social media that they finished the first part of filming.
Music
Thaman S made the music for the movie by creating the songs and music that play in the background. It’s his first time doing this for a Hindi movie.
Release
The movie will come out in theaters on May 31, 2024.
