About Amar Singh Chamkila
Amar Singh Chamkila is a new movie from India. It’s about the life of a musician named Amar Singh Chamkila. The director and one of the producers is Imtiaz Ali. The main actors are Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra.
This is the first time Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra are working with Imtiaz Ali. The movie tells the story of Chamkila, a famous Punjabi singer, and his wife, Amarjot. A. R. Rahman made the music for the movie, and Irshad Kamil wrote the lyrics.
They started filming in December 2022 and finished in March 2023. You can watch it on Netflix beginning on April 12, 2024.

Production
Development
Imtiaz Ali said he is making a movie. It will be made by his company, Window Seat Films. The movie will be about Amar Singh Chamkila. He was a famous singer from Punjab who was killed when he was young. Ali said this movie is special to him. He said making this movie felt different from his other movies. He felt like he was discovering something new about himself.
At first, the movie was going to be called “Chamkila,” but later they changed it to “Amar Singh Chamkila.” Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh have sung 15 songs for the movie. Parineeti Chopra said one reason she wanted to do this movie was because she got to sing so many songs. This movie is Imtiaz Ali’s comeback as a director after four years. His last movies didn’t come out in theaters.
Casting
“Diljit Dosanjh was chosen to play the main character, Amar Singh Chamkila. Dosanjh said, “Playing Amar Singh Chamkila has been one of the toughest experiences of my life.”
Parineeti Chopra was picked to play the role of Chamkila’s second wife, Amarjot Kaur. Chopra had to leave Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal to join this project because of schedule clashes. She said, “It’s one of the most thrilling films I’ve ever been a part of.” Chopra gained 15 kilograms for her role in the film.
The director Ali said, “I couldn’t have found better actors than the very talented Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra for this film, especially since it includes some live singing.” Later, Ali also chose filmmaker Rahul Mittra for an important role.”
Filming
Filming for the movie began in December 2022. It mainly occurs in Punjab, and they filmed in real places. Both Chopra and Dosanjh finished filming in March 2023 and completed all filming by the end of March. They filmed in places like Sangrur, Ludhiana, and Mehsampur in Punjab. Some parts were also filmed in Mumbai.
Soundtrack
The music for the movie is made by A. R. Rahman, and Irshad Kamil writes the words for the songs. The first song, “Ishq Mitaye,” came out on February 29, 2024. The second song, “Naram Kaalja,” was released on March 14, 2024.
Release
The first poster for the movie was shown on February 26, 2024. A small video about the movie, a teaser, was released on May 30, 2023. The movie will come out on April 12, 2024, on Netflix, which is a special day called Baisakhi. The full preview of the movie was shown on March 28, 2024. Netflix even had a special event for it.
