About Abigail
Abigail is a new scary movie from America. It’s about monsters. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed it. Stephen Shields and Guy Busick wrote the story. The movie is based on an old film called Dracula’s Daughter from 1936, but they changed it to make it new.
The actors in the movie are Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Alisha Weir, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud (who is in the movie even though he passed away), and Giancarlo Esposito.
You can watch Abigail on April 19, 2024. It will be shown by Universal Pictures.
Premise
The movie is about some people who take a girl and ask for $50 million to let her go. But things go wrong because the girl, Abigail, turns out to be a vampire. She starts hunting the kidnappers one by one.

Production
Development
In April 2023, people said that Radio Silence Productions was making a scary movie about monsters for Universal Pictures. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett were chosen to direct it, and Chad Villella would produce it along with William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and James Vanderbilt from Project X Entertainment. Stephen Shields and Guy Busick would write the story. The movie was going to be a modern version of a classic monster, like The Invisible Man (2020) or Renfield (2023). They wanted to give a new and different twist to the old monster stories.
At first, the plan was for Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett to work on this project right after they finished the fifth Scream movie. But they decided to wait until after Scream VI.
They originally named the movie after the old story it’s based on, Dracula’s Daughter. But later, they changed it to Abigail in January 2024.
Universal also said that even though they thought about connecting this movie to The Mummy (2017), they decided not to. Each movie would be its own thing and not part of a big connected story. They wanted to let filmmakers be creative and make unique and bold stories for these classic characters without any limits on budget, rating, or genre.
Casting
In April 2023, Melissa Barrera got a big part in a movie. She was in the Scream movies before. In the next month, Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand, Alisha Weir, Kathryn Newton, Angus Cloud, and Will Catlett also joined the movie. In June 2023, they said Giancarlo Esposito would be in the movie too. Later, we found out that Alisha Weir is playing Dracula’s Daughter.
Filming
They started taking pictures for the movie on June 30, 2023, in Dublin, Ireland. At first, they called it “Abducting Abigail.” But in July, they had to stop filming because of a strike by actors. One of the actors, Cloud, finished his scenes before he passed away on July 31, 2023. They finished all the filming on December 15 of that year.
Music
In January 2024, they said that Brian Tyler will make the music for the movie. He worked with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett on other projects before this one.
Release
Abigail is scheduled to be released on April 19, 2024.
