Eshom Nelms and Ian Nelms, who are writers and directors, grew up in central California. They loved playing with G.I. Joe toys and dreaming about landscapes like those in John Ford’s movies. Even though they went in different directions for a while – Ian went to college on a wrestling scholarship and discovered a passion for English, while Eshom studied fine art but preferred illustrating comic books – they both kept coming back to their love for making movies.
Ian has worked on different projects by himself, and Eshom has been a professional storyboard artist for more than ten years. But the Nelms Brothers always work together on writing and directing, and they have won awards for both short and feature films.
In 2013, their movie ‘Lost on Purpose’ won many awards at festivals. In 2015, ‘Waffle Street’ won the Best Film award at the Woodstock Film Festival and Best Narrative Film at the Hollywood Film Festival. Their latest film, ‘Small Town Crime,’ came out in 2018 and had top reviews from critics at the NY Times, LA Times, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter.
The Nelms Brothers also work on producing projects together. Recently, they were executive producers for the series “Everyone is Doing Great,” created by their friend James Lafferty. They are also set to direct a thriller called ‘Capture’ for Thunder Road, the company behind the successful ‘John Wick’ movies.
