Dean Israelite is a filmmaker from South Africa. He was born on September 20, 1984. He is best known for making movies like Project Almanac, the 2017 Power Rangers reboot, and the 2019 Are You Afraid of the Dark reboot.

Early Life:

Dean grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, and studied Dramatic Art at the University of the Witwatersrand. Later, he moved to Australia and finished his studies in Film and Television at Curtin University. He also earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from the American Film Institute. His cousin is the director Jonathan Liebesman, and he comes from a Jewish background.

Career:

Dean started his career by writing and directing short films, including Acholiland. In 2015, he directed his first feature film, Project Almanac, a science fiction thriller. He also directed the 2017 Power Rangers movie, but it didn’t do well at the box office and lost money for the studio.

Future and Cancelled Projects:

Dean was considered to direct the Marvel Studios superhero film Doctor Strange in 2014, but another director was chosen. In the same year, he was set to direct a remake of the 1983 film WarGames. Currently, he is set to direct a movie called Unexplained Phenomenon for Amblin Entertainment and The Picture Company.
