In her personal life, McPhail was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, USA. Then she moved to Toronto, Ontario, where she went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts. When she was 14 years old, she got her first big acting job as Annie Edison in The Edison Twins TV show. She is married to Reed Diamond. Also, she appeared in an episode of the TV series Sliders, in the fourth season, called “Revelations”.
