Lucy Liu is an American actress born on December 2, 1968. She has won awards for her acting, like the Critics’ Choice Television Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. She was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. Lucy has been in TV shows like Ally McBeal, where she played Ling Woo, and Elementary, where she played Joan Watson. She also starred in movies like Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill: Volume 1.

Lucy was born in New York City to Cecilia and Tom Liu. She is the youngest of three children. Her parents came from Beijing and Shanghai and later met in New York. Lucy grew up in a diverse neighborhood, learning Mandarin at home and studying English from a young age. She attended Stuyvesant High School and later studied at the University of Michigan.

At 19, Lucy was discovered by an agent while on the subway, leading to her acting career. She started with small roles and made her big-screen debut in the Hong Kong film Rhythm of Destiny in 1992. Lucy has also been a voice actor in movies like Kung Fu Panda and Tinker Bell series.

Apart from acting, Lucy is an artist. She has showcased her artwork in gallery shows and donated profits to UNICEF. She received an “Asian Excellence Award” for Visibility in 2006. Lucy made her Broadway debut in 2010 and supports causes like marriage equality and global health issues.

In her personal life, Lucy is a single parent to her son, Rockwell, born in 2015 via gestational surrogate. She has been a vegetarian since childhood. In 1991, she had surgery after a breast cancer scare, but the lump turned out to be benign.
