Kathleen R. McNamara, also known as Kate, is a teacher at Georgetown University. She works in the Government Department and the School of Foreign Service. Before, she was in charge of the Mortara Center for International Studies. Right now, she helps lead the Global Political Economy Project. In 2018, she got a special award for being a great scholar in International Political Economy.

She learned at McGill University and got her BA in 1984. Later, she got her MIA and PhD in Political Science from Columbia University in 1989 and 1995. She taught at Princeton University and Sciences Po Paris before coming to Georgetown.

Kate McNamara studies the international political economy of the European Union. She looks at how ideas, identity, and culture play a role. People think her work is important for understanding the European Union. Her book in 1998, “The Currency of Ideas,” explains why the Euro started using a new perspective. Another book in 2015, “The Politics of Everyday Europe,” is praised for showing how and why the European Union became a real political group, even if it’s sometimes shaky.

In 2020, Kate McNamara got the SWIPE Mentor Award for helping women succeed in the field of international political economy.

She wrote some important books and articles, including “The Politics of Everyday Europe” and “The Currency of Ideas.” Her work on the Euro crisis and the impact of COVID-19 on globalization is also well-known.
