Hunter Schafer is an American actress and model. She’s famous for playing Jules Vaughn, a transgender high school student, in the HBO show Euphoria. She became well-known for her activism against a law in North Carolina in 2016. Hunter was born in 1998 in Trenton, New Jersey, and grew up moving between New Jersey, Arizona, and North Carolina. She has three younger siblings.
Hunter started showing her feminine side when she was very young. In middle school, she told her parents she was gay, but later realized she was transgender. She turned to the internet to learn more about gender identity. In 2016, she made headlines by standing up against a law in North Carolina that discriminated against transgender people. She also wrote about it for Teen Vogue and made a film.
After high school, Hunter started modeling and became successful quickly, working with big brands like Dior and Gucci. She planned to study clothing design in London but decided to focus on acting when she got a role in Euphoria.
In Euphoria, Hunter played a transgender character and received awards for her performance. She also co-wrote an episode of the show. Besides acting, she’s also worked with fashion brands like Shiseido and Mugler.
In addition to acting and modeling, Hunter has directed music videos and starred in movies like Belle and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. She’s also involved in activism, like participating in protests.
Hunter prefers she/her pronouns but has said she doesn’t want her trans identity to define her career. She’s been open about her sexuality, identifying as lesbian and later as bi or pansexual. She’s had relationships with singer Rosalía and her Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike.
In 2022, Hunter faced backlash for a comment on Instagram, and in 2024, she was arrested during a protest in New York City.
