Gabriel LaBelle is a Canadian actor born in September 2002. He became well-known for his main role as Sammy Fabelman in Steven Spielberg’s movie “The Fabelmans” in 2022. He got praised for his performance and won the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Young Performer.
LaBelle has also acted in the action film “The Predator” (2018), an episode of the Netflix horror series “Brand New Cherry Flavor” (2021), and the Showtime drama series “American Gigolo” (2022).
He’s from Vancouver and is the son of producer and actor Rob LaBelle. LaBelle developed an interest in acting at a young age and started at a summer camp. He made his on-screen debut in 2013 and later committed to acting as a career.
In “The Fabelmans,” LaBelle played the role of Sammy Fabelman, a character inspired by Steven Spielberg’s teenage years. He received acclaim for his performance and prepared for the role by watching Spielberg’s films and studying family archives.
The movie premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, where LaBelle was recognized as a Rising Star. He won the Best Young Performer award at the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Breakthrough Performance award from the National Board of Review.
After the film, LaBelle moved to Los Angeles to pursue more acting projects. In 2022, he joined the cast of the Showtime series “American Gigolo” and took on a lead role in the coming-of-age comedy “Snack Shack,” set to be released in March 2024.
Additionally, he was cast as Lorne Michaels in the biopic “SNL 1975,” telling the behind-the-scenes story of the opening night of Saturday Night Live.
