Derek became famous for being a professional dancer on a TV show called Dancing with the Stars from 2007 to 2016. He won the show six times with his celebrity partners, which is a record.

Derek Hough also worked as an actor in stage performances like Footloose: The Musical and the New York Spring Spectacular. He has appeared in movies and TV shows, such as Make Your Move and Nashville. In 2016, he played Corny Collins in Hairspray Live!
