Bill Camp grew up in Massachusetts. His parents are Patricia L. and Peter B. Camp. His dad worked at the Groton School. Bill went to the University of Vermont and played intramural hockey.

Bill Camp started his career in theater. He took a break in 2002 but came back in 2004 to act in a play called Homebody/Kabul. He won an award for it. He has also acted in Broadway plays like Heartbreak House, Death of a Salesman, and The Crucible. He got a nomination for a Tony Award for The Crucible.
