Austin Robert Butler, born on August 17, 1991, is an American actor. He started his career on TV, first on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, like in Zoey 101. Later, he acted in teen dramas such as Life Unexpected and Switched at Birth. He got noticed for his roles in The Carrie Diaries and The Shannara Chronicles. In 2018, he made his Broadway debut and was in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019.
Butler became famous for playing Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s film Elvis (2022), winning a Golden Globe and BAFTA Award. Time magazine listed him among the 100 most influential people in 2023. Recently, he acted in Masters of the Air and Dune: Part Two in 2024.
In his early life, Butler was born in Anaheim, California. His parents divorced when he was seven, and he has an older sister. His family has Finnish roots. He started acting at thirteen after being discovered at the Orange County Fair.
In his career from 2005 to 2011, he appeared in teen sitcoms like Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Hannah Montana, and Zoey 101. He also starred in movies like Aliens in the Attic.
From 2012 to 2018, Butler played leading roles in TV shows like The Carrie Diaries and The Shannara Chronicles. He also ventured into stage plays and movies.
From 2019 onward, he gained recognition for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and the lead role in Elvis. His performance in Elvis won him several awards.
Besides acting, Butler loves making music. He learned to play guitar at thirteen and piano at sixteen. He dated actress Vanessa Hudgens from 2011 to 2019 and began dating Kaia Gerber in December 2021. Unfortunately, his mother passed away in 2014 due to duodenal cancer.
